A Review of Standing Tall
By Andy Reid MBE
In Afghanistan, large numbers of British soldiers were killed by improvised explosive devices. The IED was the weapon of choice for the Taliban
In October 2009, Corporal Andy Reid MBE stepped on a Taliban improvised explosive device while on patrol in Helmand Province, Afghanistan. After losing three limbs, no one thought he’d survive.
Despite being a triple amputee, within a month, he was able to meet up with members of his patrol again. Since then, he has carried out many arduous challenges to raise money and give back to the associations that helped him and his family through difficult times.
With the help of John Tabern (now CEO) they set up the Standing Tall Foundation in March of 2020. Mainly at their own expense and time, they have helped tackle homelessness, attempted suicide, job loss, depression and various mental health scenarios.
The book made me feel humble. Although the IED damaged his body, Andy Reid fought back. His courage is without doubt. The fact that he is actively helping others marks him as an exceptional man.
