Jim’s Revenge – Andrew R Williams

Jim’s Revenge
Jim’s Revenge – Andrew R Williams Much to Tommy’s disapproval, (Jim’s son) Jim Godwin wants a part-time job because he finds retirement boring and wants social interaction.
Despite Tommy’s objections, Jim eventually takes a lowly position at Slobend, Fleecem and Skinnem. He’s taken on as “can-lad” and general “gofer”.
Unfortunately for Jim, he realises he’s now working in a highly dysfunctional organisation where binge drinking and office sex are commonplace.
Worse, Jim recognises Flin Rheingold and Paul Tupal; as a sideline; they are local drug pushers.
Not wishing Jim to report their activities, Rheingold and Tupal do their best to bully Jim into resigning, but he sticks it out.
Eventually, Jim tell Ian, his grandson about the office bullying. In turn, Ian tells Gerry Fustrum about what is happening. Fustrum is a computer wizard and is no stranger to the Dark Web.
Gerry hates bullies and has a dislike of drug dealers. Once recruited, Fulstrum sets about engineering Jim’s Revenge.
Money is taken from Marjory Fleecen’s bank account to fund “the revenge” From that moment onwards, things start to happen. Two of the Roman enactment society that works with Jim are locked in an unheated church hall “freezing their nuts off” because they are only wearing short Roman kilts. Fleecem’s racehorse is knobbled. There are high-speed car chases, and there is a gunfight in Chester. What else could happen?
A Few Reviews:-
5.0 out of 5 stars I really enjoyed the mix of violence and humour

Jim’s Revenge is a funny and witty book about a retired man who wants a part-time job. He manages to get himself tangled up with some dubious characters, who he refuses to give in to.
The characters are vivid and seem to get up to increasingly outrageous activities. There were plenty of plot twists and the story was hard to predict, which I loved.
I really enjoyed the mix of violence and humour, mystery and mundane, I was engrossed right to the end.

5.0 out of 5 stars Revenge is a book best read with a chuckle!

So, after reading A R Williams’ First 2 Arcadia’s Children novels and eagerly awaiting the third I was somewhat surprised when this book appeared on my “because you read” on my kindle.
“Jim’s Revenge” is a pretty far departure from the two previous books. There isn’t a killer mutant space millipede or psychotic robot to be seen anywhere. Instead we get the epic tale of an elderly bloke who gets a part time job making brews for a bunch of office workers.
Yep, you read that correctly. Now obviously it isn’t as simple as that hence the “revenge” bit in the title. But I’d rather not spoil anything here except to say that Andrew R Williams has proved here, like many a good writer, that he isn’t limited to a certain genre.
Also his gift for writing really likeable, and dislike able characters is well intact! Jim our elderly hero is the sort of bloke you see in your local pub and have a beer with. He’s the next door neighbour who you ask your parcels to be delivered to when you aren’t going to be in. The high point of his day is feeding the ducks.
But, as the office workers he delivers the tea to discover: cross this guy at your own risk!
And speaking of the office (who’s name I genuinely laughed out loud at!) and it’s workers, well let’s just say by the end of the book they have got exactly what is coming to them!
All the characters are truly well written, feel real and I finished the book with a big old smile. An easy recommenrdation

5.0 out of 5 stars A Witty book filled with many, interesting variables.

An ARC copy was received from the publisher.
This is a slow starter with so many variables that it didn’t make sense in the beginning. To be honest, I had my doubts and thought to quite by chapter 4. Nevertheless, I continued and by the last page, I am glad I did.
Jim’s Revenge is a witty, cleverly planned plot with so many happening at the same time that you get lost in all the details. With this book, details definitely made the story. Each scene another building block cleverly devised till the end. And the end result was fantastic. Revenge is sweet is a good description for this book and deserves a round of applause.
The dialogue is written in such a way that it pulls you in and keeps your attention. Through it, you really get to know the characters, one by one.
Jim, the main character is a pensioner. To curb the boredom he applied for a job across the street at Slobend, Fleecem & Skinnem. Without adding some spoilers to the review it definitely is good to know, because it forms the foundation of the plot. The entire plot involves the employees of this company and Jim learned quickly. All I am willing to mention is that practical jokes have a way to catch up to you. Watch out whom you play with. Jim might be old but definitely not senile or stupid. After this, you will have to buy the book. Seriously, it will be money well spent.
The supporting characters were a mixture of sweet and sour, with a tangy twist which made it surprisingly witty. From drug barons to the damsel in distress, each character forms part of the plot.
The author’s writing style is sharp and to the point which made it easy to follow, as well as fast-paced and enjoyable. Thanks for the book and the interesting reading time.

A first-class comedy mystery thriller with perfect pacing…
I enjoyed the story, character development, and dialogue. There were plenty of plot twists that I didn’t see coming and that added to the book’s mystique. When I stopped reading to work, I found myself wondering what happened in the book, and replaying parts of the novel in my head to see if I could figure more out. It has been a while since I enjoyed a book this much. It’s a first-class comedy mystery thriller with perfect pacing.
Andrew Williams has done it again! A relevant and timely story that’s a must read for everyone. Though the story is about a good man Jim who finally decides to give it back to his bullies, it is a story that many will be able to relate to.
We’re all living in a harsh world were bullies think it’s OK to push people who are silent, don’t voice out, or don’t have the looks or means, and what not. In most cases, they just bully because they want to and find reasons to give!

This is a mystery thriller that made me wonder and think quite a bit not only about what was going to happen next but also about what would happen to some of the characters. It is an unforgettable story that lingers with you for a while even after you have read the story. It is a story that has breath and depth.
